9. The Marquis of Huntley’s Highland Fling / Jock Wilson’s Ball / Tail Toddle / Miss Girdle - (smallpipes/fiddle/guitar)
The Marquis of Huntley’s Highland Fling was composed by George Jenkins (c. 1760-1806). Here it is played as a three part strathspey rather than the four part one commonly found in bagpipe music collections. Jock Wilson’s Ball is a traditional pipe reel followed by Tail Toddle, a reel that provides the melody to a children’s song of the same name. And finally, Miss Girdle, is said to be a pipe setting of “Lady Montgomery’s”, a much older Bb fiddle tune composed by Col. Hugh Montgomerie.
